Leash Requirement for Pets

To ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all residents, please be aware that both city ordinance (Wichita Sec 6.04.040) and Evergreen Covenants mandate that your pet must be on a leash when not in an enclosed area, such as your backyard.

Pet Waste Management

Responsible pet ownership includes promptly cleaning up after your dog when they relieve themselves on property that does not belong to you. Not only is this courteous to your neighbors, but it's also mandated by the City of Wichita ordinances, and non-compliance may result in citations. If you witness a dog owner failing to properly dispose of their pet's waste on your property, you can report them under ordinance 6.04.040. Please note that you'll need to be willing to sign a complaint when making these reports.

Barking Dogs

We understand that dogs can be a source of comfort and companionship, but it's essential to be considerate of your neighbors, especially if your dog spends a lot of time outdoors. Excessive barking can be disruptive, and it's regulated under ordinance 6.04.040. If you're affected by a barking dog, you may sign a complaint at the Department of Environmental Services. A person violating this ordinance may face legal consequences, including fines or imprisonment, upon a first conviction.

How to Address Barking Dog Complaints

If you're dealing with a barking dog issue and don't have the dog owner's information, please call 911 while the dog is actively barking to report a noise complaint. To initiate charges, you'll need to sign a complaint, as Environmental Services cannot proceed without it. If you have information about the owner, you can call Case Desk at 268-4221 to make a complaint over the phone. Here are the steps to file a complaint with Environmental Services:

  1. File a police report and keep the case number.
  2. Contact Animal Control at 350-3360 and provide them with the case number.
  3. Provide a sworn affidavit (notaries are available on-site).
  4. Furnish a list of witnesses and their addresses.
  5. Attend the court date as required.
